
Summary: Jack Tregarden is a brilliant scholar from a working class background who forms an unlikely friendship at Oxford with Simon de Betancourt, a mysterious aristocrat. Years later, de Betancourt invites Tregarden to his family home to revise the catalogue in the house’s library. As the project unfolds, Tregarden is confronted with a centuries’ old puzzle that he must solve to unlock a great mystery.
